Look back at the time when you carried blazing lanterns of hope in your eyes and looked out of your emptiness, hoping to find gold.

Tell her that it is true what they say; that love is not enough, and someday life will teach her. Someday, she will meet someone and hear a strange, haunting song in her chest and the melody will stick to the roof of her mouth like burning sweet molasses.

Tell her:

Maybe they will love you back, loving all of you in ways that you have denied yourself to want all these dry years. Maybe they will sink into your eyes, swim into your darkest depths and unravel you. But love is not enough, so sometimes you will have to hold their hand, and guide clueless fingers gently over scars you have so cleverly hidden these long years.
